Minehead

Here are some very blurry pics of the weekend, starting with The Stooges. Please note that the photographer was seriously out of it most of the time, and it's a wonder anything came out at all. Comets On Fire were my high point of the event:

While the low point must be the No Neck Blues Band...

...who were complete toss, in spite of the fact that the singer spent half the set topless. At one point a fire alarm went off in the venue and everyone thought it was part of the music.

Yeah, Comets on Fire were fantastic...but yr wide of the mark: the No Neck boys played a cracking set....I can't believe an old spliffhead like you didn't get into them. I'm kicking myself for not getting any of their vinyls.

Happy Birthday...sorry I missed it, but I was in a sweat-soaked coma...

Managed to miss you all weekend...guess I was hanging at some of the more esoteric shows (21 bands in 3 days!, mainly at the front) but Steve and Al kept bumping into you and said you seemed to be having a good time. Woulda loved to have hooked up for a few drinks.

Did you see Prurient? I woulda thought he would have been right up your street: Black Metal noisestorm.

No, didn't get to see Purient. My problem was that 80% of the acts I'd never heard of. That's why I wanted to see you to tell me who was any good.

Had a great weekend, though. There was something hilariously surreal about bumping into Glitch & Brendon and walking into a Butlins bar at 5pm to watch The Haters with a hangover.

Melvins were really good as well, and I really dug some of the more esoteric stuff like Nurse With Wound and 16 Bitch Pileup

Yeah, it was a fantastic weekend...
I didnt see 16 bitch pile-up....some of my friends went cos they liked the name, but I think they thought they were gonna be a Punk band, so they came back complaining they were crap...I've wanted to see NWW for over 20 years, but I thought they were a bit disappointing; they were okay/good, but not great....I saw 21 bands in total and didn't see a single crap act, but there were still 3 or 4 that I wanted to see but missed for various reasons....

yep good to hook up with ya at what indeed was a surreal kind of thang - I second the Prurient comment - first time I have ever seen pogoing and crowd-surfing to a noise artist - makes me feel kind-of-old as all I could do was huddle over me cider in the back ! Comets on Fire rocked my socks too - as did Eye - if only I could remember more i am sure I could comment on others - but alas I was mostly very very stoned and pissed !!

I ended up by one of the bins during Prurient's set, totally stoned, when he hit the resonant frequency of one of my root canal filings and it felt like someone jabbed my jaw with a fork....yeee-HA! That was sooo cool that I went out and bought one of his records the next day.

Glitch is being too modest; he provided us with the weekend's most Rock and Roll moment!

Yeah, Eye was cool too....

I was in the queue behind him at the convenience store later, so I thanked him for a most excellent set and he sort of bowed slightly, nodded and said 'thank you' really politely...two hours earlier he'd been a shreiking mad Jap Kabuki dervissssssh...

Lurch, if you've never checked The Boredoms, then now's the time to start....
